It Was 60 Years Ago Today: A Beatles Conversation with Cousin Brucie and Jamie Bernstein The Loft at City Winery, Monday February 5, 2024 To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Beatles’ first visit to America and their historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, The Village Trip will present a conversation with Bruce Morrow (Cousin Brucie) and Jamie Bernstein. The legendary radio personality – who hosts Cousin Brucie’s Saturday Night Rock ‘n’ Roll Party on WABC – helped launch Beatlemania in America and introduced the band to 65,000 screaming fans at Shea Stadium the following year. Jamie speaks for an entire generation when she says: “Cousin Brucie was in my ears every day of my life back in those years.” Jamie Bernstein, the Maestro’s daughter, who grew up playing Beatles songs on the piano with her father, was at both an Ed Sullivan Show rehearsal and at Shea Stadium. She will engage Morrow in a lively give-and-take about music, radio, the Fab Four, and the power of popular culture to bring people together while revealing underlying truths. Morrow and Bernstein hail from Brooklyn and Manhattan respectively and now live in Greenwich Village and Chelsea. Music will be provided by Amiri and Rahiem Taylor, twins who perform as Blac Rabbit and have sung Beatles songs in the New York subways, in clubs, and on the Ellen DeGeneres show. The New York Times reported: “Live in the Subway: Maybe the Best Beatles Cover Band Ever.” The Village Trip is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that celebrates arts and activism in Greenwich Village and the East Village/Lower East Side. Founded in 2018, it presents an annual, two-week festival each September and special events year-round.
