Stranger in a Strange Land

Burned all my bridges
Took off at midnight
I’m in a brand new place today
It’s just beginning
My big adventure
I’m not so sure I want to stay

The light is funny
They talk so quickly
Can’t figure out this telephone
Wish I knew someone
Who speaks my language
I never felt so all alone

I’m just a stranger in a strange land

Somebody gave me
Their uncle’s address
He’s on the other side of town
Where is the subway
Am I on Main Streeet
I think my map is upside down

I need directions
But I’m embarrassed
What if I ask the question wrong
Those creepy children
They’re staring at me
As if they know I don’t belong

I’m just a stranger in a strange land
Wish I could click my heels like Dorothy
And go home

Home is a place in my mind
Where the street has yards and trees
And the neighbors are kind
Home is a place in a song
Where my love waits silently for me
All winter long
Wish I could make that front door real
And walk right in
You know I’m homesick for a place
I’ve never been

I’ve walked for hours
In endless circles
I’ve passed this fountain twice before
Can’t go much further
I feel like crying
I don’t know what I came here for

This is my voyage
My big adventure
I can’t go back the way I came
Burned all my bridges
The past is cancelled
Nobody even knows my name

I’m just a stranger in a strange land

Wish I could click my heels like Dorothy
And go home
